How to scan your floor plan

Your package includes a floor plan, and you scan it yourself with the free CubiCasa app on your phone. It takes 5–10 minutes. Follow these steps in order.

Before you start

  • An iPhone or an Android phone with the CubiCasa app (step 1).
  • About 5–10 minutes for a typical home, and enough battery.
  • All lights on, blinds open.
  • Every internal door open — before you start, not during the scan.
  • The floor clear wherever you will walk: bags, toys and cords out of the way.
  1. 1

    Install CubiCasa

Get the free app for your phone:

  2. 2

Sign in — with the email you signed up with

Open CubiCasa and sign in with the same email address you signed up with. Your order is attached to that address and no other.

First time using CubiCasa? When you start your first shoot, CubiCasa emails you a “set your password” link. Do that first, then sign in. Can’t find it? Check your junk or spam folder.

  3. 3

Open the order for your address

The order is already waiting in the app, under the property’s address. Tap it to open it.

Don’t create a new order. An order you create yourself is a separate job and may be charged to you.

  4. 4

    Scan room by room

    • Start at the front door, standing inside, with the phone upright (portrait) at chest height.
    • Walk slowly along the walls, keeping 1.5–3 m from them, and point the camera where the floor meets the wall.
    • Capture every room — garage, laundry, toilet, walk-in robes and the outdoor living area included. The plan only shows where you have been.
    • Go into each room, sweep it, then back out the way you came rather than turning around in a small space.
    • Keep it to one continuous scan, lowest floor first. If you take the stairs, walk them slowly with the camera on the steps.
    • Close the loop: finish back at the front door where you started, so the rooms join up.
    The four rules, in short
    • One continuous scan for the whole home, lowest floor first — do not stop and restart.
    • Hold the phone at chest height and walk slowly, keeping 1.5–3 m from the walls.
    • Open every door before you start; do not open doors mid-scan. Back out of small rooms rather than turning around.
    • All lights on, and every room walked — the plan only shows where you have been.
  5. 5

Submit the scan in the app

When you are back at the front door, finish the scan and submit it in the app. Stay on Wi-Fi or mobile data until it says the upload is done.

  6. 6

    What happens next

Your floor plan is drawn from the scan and arrives in your FotoPal gallery usually within 6 hours, often about 3. We email you when it is there — you don’t need to do anything else.

Troubleshooting

I didn’t get the “set your password” email.
Check your junk or spam folder for an email from CubiCasa. It is only sent the first time you use CubiCasa, when you start your first shoot. If you have used CubiCasa before, sign in with your existing password, or tap “Forgot password” in the app. Still nothing? Reply to any of our emails and we will resend it.
The order for my address isn’t showing.
Pull down on the order list to refresh. Check you are signed in with the same email you signed up with — an order is only visible to that login. If you have only just pressed Start, give it a minute. If our email said we are still setting up your order, wait for the next email. Please don’t create a new order: one you create yourself may be charged.
My scan was interrupted.
A phone call or a locked screen can stop a scan. Open the same order again and start the scan again from the front door — do not create a new order. Turn on Do Not Disturb and keep the screen awake while you scan.
I’ve submitted the scan. When does the plan arrive?
It arrives in your gallery usually within 6 hours, often about 3, and we email you when it is there.
